Founded in 2010 by number of Freemasons in the Military Police, the name was adopted from their motto Exemplo Ducemus, (latin translate – ‘By example we shall lead’). The lodge tie design is based on Military Police colours, dark blue with red stripe, and an insignia of blindfolded Lady Justice emblem, in the centre of a laurel wreath, symbolising fairness and justice for all.
Exemplo Ducemus meets four times a year, last Saturday in January, fourth Saturday in March, June and September. September’s meeting is installation, where a new Master and Offices of the Lodge are installed for the forthcoming year. The meetings times 10.30 to around 12.30. The festive board (meal) takes place from around 13.00 – 14.30. During which we hold raffles and charitable donations. Dress code is dark suit, white shirt, Military Mess Uniform, Lodge or black tie, and black shoes. Conducted in a convivial and lively spirit, members are encouraged to attend every meet.
Linked to the Lodge is a very special virtual Facebook Lodge of Royal Military Police. A group of ex, or, serving RMP Freemasons who attend our September meeting to support the Installation, and raise monies for their nominated charity. This is a particularly exciting meet as they bring a huge amount of fun and frivolity to our festive board. Which has become a must to attend by brethren from other Lodges.
Regular communications/ reports, (minutes, Charity Steward, Almoner), are distributed prior to meetings. Decisions on charitable donations, candidate proposals, are voted on by members in open lodge.
The lodge also has a strong active link to:
Oxfordshire Provincial Charity Projects:
- The Pantomime Project, which hosts some 600 disadvantaged/ disabled children and carers to an Oxford Playhouse Pantomime performance each year.
- Teddies for Loving Care. Teddies Bear are provided to hospital Accident and Emergency Units to hand out to distressed children as a comfort to help them cope with their stay.
Oxfordshire Light Blues
The Light Blues' Club provides opportunities for all Masons below Provincial rank to increase both their Masonic knowledge and social enjoyment via the hosting of events, talks and social gatherings. It’s free, and membership is automatic.
Our founding members and many brethren have links to secure services. It is not a requirement to join Exemplo Ducemus. Every potential Freemason, a male over 21 and who shares our values, is warmly welcomed to the lodge. We seek members who can commit to regular attendance. Take part in, enjoy, the ritual and ceremonial aspects of Freemasonry, and grow with learning the history of Masonic craft.
